Completed Dandy Neckerchief

21 Mar

I think I finished this a month ago? Or something? Sometimes I am just so bad at remembering to take pictures.

The pattern is the Dandy Neckerchief and the yarn is Berroco Weekend. I am just in love with the final product; it is cozy and warm, and the color goes great with my grey winter coat – the Vaute Couture Vaute Coat. I was worried a bit before blocking because the stitch pattern was looking a little lumpy, but I squirted it with a bit of steam and it came out perfectly.

Since then I have cast on for the Gretel Tam from Stitch n’ Bitch Superstar Knitting, the latest from the Stitch n’ Bitch series. My lovely Nana was nice enough to get me the book for for Christmas.

I am using the bamboo/cotton/acrylic mix I had custom spun at Yarnia in Portland. I was worried that having so many separate strands would be annoying, but it’s really not bothersome at all. And the yarn looks so yummy!

On the Needles

26 Jan

My current work in progress is the Dandy Neckerchief in Berroco Weekend. So far it’s been a fun but fairly mindless piece to work on. As of right now I just plan on knitting to the end of my second ball of yarn.

Tomorrow I’m headed to Portland, Oregon, the vegan capital of the world! I plan on eating a whole lotta vegan food, shopping, and exploring the cities  numerous yarn shops (especially Yarnia!).

Oh, and check out my new little side project The Noochy Noodle, where I try out every vegan macaroni and cheese related recipe, product and menu item I can get my hands on.

The Year of the Accessory

10 Jan

Hello! Hi there. So sorry for my little hiatus, things were just too hectic with finals followed so closely by the holidays. I barely had time to knit, let alone blog.

So, I made a few promises to myself after the holidays were over. The first is to not be so busy for extended periods of time that I’m unable to enjoy life and take care of myself. I knew that going back to school full time and working was going to be tough, and it was. I love my job and I love school, so I just need to figure out how to balance the two and leave myself a little time to knit, read, see my friends, eat well, blog, etc. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to do it yet, but I have to for my sanity.

Second is that I’m going to go against everything that feels right to me and not cast on for any cardigans until at least December. I absolutely love knitting sweaters, but I’m not at a place where I have the time to ever finish them and it just discourages me. I’m not even halfway through my Who Me? yet!  That’s why I’m declaring 2011 The Year of the Accessory! I need a little instant gratification in my life right now.

I did manage to knock out one small project out recently:

The pattern is the ever-so-popular Fetching from Knitty. I made one little modification by adding an extra set of cables right after the row where you create the thumb hole;  I wanted the mitts to fit extra snuggly around my knuckles. The pattern was quite easy and I enjoyed learning a new technique for creating a thumb gusset.

I used Berroco Weekend (75% acrylic and 25% cotton) in Cocoa, which was great to work with. The yarn has a tendency to split, but if you’re careful it has great stitch definition.

I practically haven’t taken them off since I finished, though it certainly helps that it’s about 50 degrees in my apartment right now.
